If You See One Roach, There Are Certainly More
Nobody wants to find a roach in their home—and, if you do, there are almost certainly plenty more. Cockroaches are social creatures and often live in family groups. These insects can carry and transmit numerous serious diseases, including dysentery, typhoid, and the polio-causing virus. They also carry six types of parasitic worms and dozens of kinds of bacteria.
Roaches can trigger allergy symptoms with their feces, shed skin, and shed body parts serving as the cause. So, if people in your home are experiencing a runny nose, frequent sneezing, and watery eyes—and, in more significant cases, have trouble breathing comfortably—then this can be a sign that roaches have found their way into your Southwest Ranches home.
Plus, when we say that cockroaches are extremely resilient, we aren’t exaggerating! The Smithsonian Institute notes how they can hold their breath for five to seven minutes—and even survive without a head for weeks. So, DIY extermination just doesn’t work. Instead, contact our experienced cockroach exterminators. Our expert Southwest Ranches pest control team will quickly and efficiently solve your problem.

Roach Infestation Signs
If you spot critters with spindly legs and shiny bodies that look like pictures of roaches you’ve seen, they probably are cockroaches. They run away quickly, though, and can even fly away. So, it may be more likely that you’ll hear or smell them first. Rustling in the nighttime, for example, could be an infestation sign.
Or you may smell their oily secretions, especially if the infestation size is growing. When it is noticeable, it will really stink. If you notice the smell around food, and it’s been sitting out—toss it out. You can’t safely salvage it at this point.
Because cockroaches can escape so quickly, you may need to rely upon the presence of their droppings in your kitchen, pantry, or basement to confirm their presence. (Although the feces looks like mouse droppings, our cockroach exterminator team can spot the difference.) Or, you may find dark roach eggs enclosed in casings in your basement, laundry room, or kitchen.
Types of Florida Cockroaches
More than one species of cockroach lives in Florida and appreciates living inside of homes. The German cockroach, for example, is one of the most common types in the United States. Adults are light brown in hue with two dark parallel stripes on their backs. Young German cockroaches are dark brown to black, already showing signs of stripes.
This species has wings but seldom fly. They appreciate warm, humid conditions and love being near food. One female can birth more than 30,000 babies annually, which explains how infestation sizes can grow so rapidly.
Another type often seen in the Southwest Ranches is the brown-banded species with dark bodies and lighter stripes. These critters can be challenging to spot because they’re nocturnal and small in size. They also reproduce quite rapidly.
No matter the species, our experienced cockroach pest control team can find where they hide, identify the type, and create the best plan to get them out of your home, stat.
Preventing Infestations
Our Southwest Ranches roach pest control team will go above and beyond when getting rid of the cockroaches.
We will also share tips on how to keep them from coming back inside your home. First, caulk or otherwise seal up any cracks and crevices in your home, including but not limited to those around doors and windows.
Inside, pick one place where your family eats, and then stick to that spot. This reduces the places where you’ll need to clean up crumbs and spills. Avoid keeping food out overnight, including pet food. Seal containers tightly. Clean countertops regularly and wash dirty dishes as soon as it’s practical. Clean under and around your stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and any other appliances as well as underneath your sink.
Empty and clean pet dishes at night; keep trash cans tightly lidded; and take the trash outdoors and place in a tightly lidded garbage cans at night. Vacuum inside often.
