Ant Control

Plenty of types of ants call Davie home, each having unique characteristics—and one key thing in common: you don’t want any of them in your house. Here are just seven of the species found in our area, starting with one that can be downright dangerous.

• Fire Ants: Keep your distance from these ants. Their stings are painful and can lead to intense itching and pustules. For people who are allergic to the stings, fire ant stings can cause severe reactions, ones that can even be life-threatening. Fire ants will attack people, as well as their pets, and are likely to reinfest areas if not properly controlled.
• Bigheaded Ants: These ants like to forage in people’s kitchens and bathrooms and are a growing nuisance in South Florida.
• Carpenter Ants: These ants love sweetness and moisture, and they leave a trail to their nests that can be tracked. Watch out, though. They bite.
• Crazy Ants: This unpredictable species isn’t picky about what they eat or where they nest. They don’t even follow trails like other species do.

Cockroach Exterminator

Roaches are nasty pests that can carry serious diseases, including typhoid, dysentery, and the virus causing polio. Plus, they can carry dozens of types of bacteria and six species of parasitic worms. They can also trigger allergies via the skin and body parts they shed, plus the feces they leave behind. Although there are plenty of cockroach species, there are two that are especially common in Florida.

• German Cockroach — This is the most common type—which isn’t surprising since one single female can have 30,000 babies annually.
• Brown-Banded Cockroach — If you see dark brown roaches with two lighter brown stripes across their bodies, this is likely to be the species.
